Navy gingham off-centre button mini: no step at the neckline, and a snap at the bust

Straight mini with a very wide boat neck, short set-in sleeves, princess seams and seven buttons down the left princess seam.

Front and derived back drawing of a navy gingham mini with short sleeves, a wide boat neck, princess seams and seven white buttons down the left princess seam.
Front as in the photo; the back is derived.

What was wrong

The source shows a photo beside an unscaled drawing; the pattern follows the photo. Reviews found a 27 mm step where the overlapping front met the neckline, nothing holding the opening closed at the bust, and a sewing order in the guide that could not be followed.

What changed

The overlapping front carries the neckline of the layer beneath it, so the neck edge runs on without a step, and the princess seams leave the neckline at a right angle. A hidden 10 mm snap closes the opening at the bust between the second and third buttons; the seven evenly spaced buttons of the photo stay. The guide keeps the left facing's shoulder free until the neck is done.

Eight-piece size 36 cutting pattern: front centre, left and right front sides, back centre on the fold, back side, sleeve and two opening facings.
Cutting pattern, size EU36: eight pieces; the left front carries the opening.

Result

Digital review passed on 7 October. Re-checked on 10 October after later shared fixes; the side seams moved at most 0.4 mm. Also checked in sizes EU34 to EU44; only EU36 is offered as a download.

Still open

The back, which the photo does not show, the top of the right princess seam, the skirt length and the fabric are assumptions. The front armhole and sleeve cap are about 9 mm longer than the back; a toile will show whether that needs a change.
