Front and derived back drawing of a sleeveless pink dress with a low hip seam, a wrap overskirt knotted under a bow at the wearer's right hip, a cascade falling from the knot and a cream underskirt showing below the hem; the back has a centre zip.
Front as in the photo; the back is derived.
Twelve-piece size 36 cutting pattern: front centre on the fold, front side, back centre, back side, front overskirt with three pleat wedges, right front overskirt, cascade, back overskirt, front and back underskirt, bow loop strip and bow tail strip.
The EU36 cutting pattern: twelve pieces, including the pleated front overskirt, the cascade and two bow strips. Names inside this preview are internal; the PDFs name every piece in English.

The dress

Pink, sleeveless, with a wide, shallow boat neck. Princess seams run down from the armholes; there is no waist seam, and the bodice stays fitted down to a seam low on the hips. Below it a flared pink overskirt wraps across the front and opens on your right, where three pleats gather its edge into a knot under a bow. A lined cascade falls from the knot to a point just below the hem, and a cream underskirt shows in the opening and 4 cm below the hem. The neck and armholes are finished with bias tape turned fully to the inside and slipstitched by hand, so no stitching shows. A 65 cm zip closes the centre back.

What was wrong

The first automatic reading of the photo described another dress: a seam at the natural waist, a long-tailed bow at the centre front and a balloon skirt. The reading was corrected by hand against the photo. Reviews then found three gaps in the pattern: it had no cloth for the folds that spread from the knot, tying the knot would have pulled about 9 cm out of the opening edge, and the cascade in the photo was missing. Worn, the front would have been a flat panel with a cream window of about 19 × 16 cm.

The shared fix

The missing parts were built into the shared pattern engine, not drawn for this one dress. The engine can now open a skirt layer at one seam to make a wrap. The folds are pivot pleats cut into the overskirt: they open 20, 25 and 30 mm at the knot edge and close to nothing at a hinge on the side seam, so the fullness sits at the knot while the side seam and the hem stay flat. The cascade is its own lined piece, sewn to a straight edge from the knot to the tip, with its roll line and tack point marked. A shared change to the waist shaping also keeps the ease below the waist, for other dresses too.

Checked

The pattern passed a digital review on 7 October. The underskirt was then changed to the plain flared layer the photo shows, with a rolled overlock hem, and that change was reviewed and accepted the same day. Later shared engine fixes were checked against it on 10 October: the bow's tail strip is now 20 mm shorter after a corrected reading of the bow and still leaves about 50 mm to spare before the tail is cut to length; the accepted measurements still hold. On 11 October the package was rebuilt so the cutting layout names the same 65 cm zip as the sewing guide, and the engine's sewability check, run on this pattern for the size-table bodies EU34 to EU44, reported no errors.

What you need

Before you cut

A digital sample made from a hand-corrected reading of a product photo on an invisible mannequin. The back is not visible in the photo: it is the plainest sewable version, with a centre back zip. No body is in the photo, so the lengths come from the dress's own proportions; the fabric's stretch and drape were not measured, so the ease is the pattern's default. The sewing guide is text only, without drawings. A similar dress on a model is in the pleated-underskirt story, linked below; whether the two photos show the same product is not confirmed.

This dress has not been sewn or fitted yet. Sew a toile in inexpensive fabric before cutting your final fabric, and check there: the fit at the hip seam, where the ease has not been tested on a body; the pleats, the cascade's roll and the bow on a dress form, since their depths are design estimates; and the overskirt hem, which in the photo rises 25–30 mm towards your left but is drawn as an even curve. The bow's tail is 60 mm wide finished; in the photo it looks closer to 74 mm.

On the cascade piece (#7) the grainline arrow runs past the outline at the top; lay it parallel to the selvedge all the same.
