Pink pinstripe back-bow mini

work in progress · drawing approved · fit not tested

Soft ruching across the front was once read as a skirt ruffle. Now it is its own layer, over a plain supporting front.

What was wrong

A sleeveless pinstripe mini with a boat neck, soft ruching across the front, a deep scooped back and a large bow at the back waist. The fold lines across the front were first read as a skirt ruffle, so the drawing and the pattern described a different dress.

The shared fix

Visual marks are now kept apart from physical structure. The ruching became its own outer layer, caught in the shoulder and side seams over a plain supporting front. The deep back scoop and the bow are drafted as their own edges and pieces. This appearance was chosen as a protected example and later engine changes keep it.

Size EU36 sample. Body measurements: bust 84 cm, waist 66 cm, hip 90 cm.

Drafted for poplin, without a zip. The overview is not tiled for printing.

The workshop example builds this dress’s printable package in your browser: A4 and A0 pattern, sewing guide and cutting layout, in a size from EU34 to EU44. It is still a work in progress and has not been sewn or fitted, so it is not listed with the free patterns.

Its sewing guide prints a negative bust ease because the open back is counted as missing fabric, so ignore that number. Piece names and the title are not final.

Before you cut

An approved drawing is not a tested fit. The way in is proposed, not seen in the photo: a centre-back slit closed by the bow as a working tie, plus a lapped placket on the upper skirt seam. The drawing does not show the placket. Neither has been sewn.
